Roadway Analysis for Glass Beads and Aggregates

Nighttime driving is made safe with the reflective paint outlining the lanes. The reflection is thanks to glass beads and their size, shape and transparency determine their performance.

Roadways such as asphalt are made from raw aggregate materials mixed with binder and filler. The size and shape of the aggregate mixture is a critical factor in the final product strength.

Additionally, binder to aggregate ratio is critical to final road properties. This ratio can be determined via a loss on ignition system. These systems are a green solution when compared to the traditional solvent methods.

Topics
  • Measuring size, shape and transparency of glass beads
  • Measuring size and shape fine aggregate, ie sand
  • Measuring size and shape, including different aspect ratios for flakiness, of coarse aggregate
  • Determining ratio of binder to aggregate using loss on ignition testing.
